Amanda Rachel & Robin Beatrice
Amanda was born on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at 3:16 pm
Robin was born on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at 9:24 pm

May 2011

We had an eventful month! We celebrated Mother's Day, Uncle Steve's 40th birthday, went to Tot Shabbat, ate ice cream, played with Sean, and just had a great time! Aleck was out of town for a couple weeks, and both kids took advantage of that time to get sick, one right after the other. They have great timing.

Robin has begun to put herself in time out each time she receives a scolding. It's a little disturbing, since she seems to like it so much. She is also increasing her vocabulary in number of words and also volume-- she likes to yell a lot. She expects you to repeat her words back to her and if you are not fast enough, she will just repeat them at higher and higher decibel levels until you comply. She has also started running, and likes to tell you as much. You'll see her start to amble back and forth and when you ask what she's doing, she'll excitedly say, "I'm running!" She has begun to narrate other parts of her life, as well. We often hear things like, "I have socks!", "I have spoons!", "I eat now!",
"I watch TV now!" These statements are sometimes a telling of the truth and other times a wishful thought verbalized. She is also very concerned about sneezing and, as was reported last month, she often asks us if we are OK after we sneeze or cough. This month, after her own sneeze, she asked herself, "OK Robin?"

She continues to refer to her sister as "Girl" even when everyone else is calling her "Amanda." Amanda doesn't seem to mind too much, which is good because sometimes Stacey and Aleck refer to her as "Girl" when talking to Robin, as well. Robin has also fallen in love with Diego ("Goo-go") and loves to watch his show. Stacey surreptitiously took a video of Robin watching the opening credits to capture her enthusiasm. Click here to see Robin dance and sing along (the music is not very loud, but if you turn your speakers up you might be able to hear it better).

Amanda got an inflatable guitar and has become a premier musician with it. Click Here to see her and Robin in action with it. She also got to spend a day at work with Stacey and plant some seeds on Bread for the City's rooftop garden. She also got to go to two Chuck E. Cheese birthday parties, which is quite a treat. Her reading and writing skills continue to improve and she is able to sound out almost any word that she comes across. She is also able to spell more words on her own and her drawings feature more text now.

The weather finally turned and we were able to spend more time outside. After about a week of pleasant weather, it got very hot, but we still managed to brave a few days outside. There was still ample time for Michael Jackson dance parties in the kitchen, as well. Click Here for a little taste of Amanda's... talent.

**Overheard this month: Amanda**

Ten minutes into a long car ride, she gives an exasperated sigh and says, "We should’ve taken a plane."

Lazy Saturday? Not For These Girls.

The girls make music together at Tot Shabbat. Robin "two-fists" it with both a tambourine and a shaker egg.

**Overheard this month: Robin**

During a song at Tot Shabbat, she turned to Stacey and excitedly called out, "D-D-Dora!" as though making a request for the next song.

Then it was out for ice cream. Does life get better?

**Overheard this month: Robin**

Handing her ice cream bowl to Stacey: "Too hot."

Happy Mother's Day!

Stacey was the proud recipient of a flower in a cup from Amanda, a mug hand-colored by Robin, some lovely cards,
and a photo mousepad from... Stacey.

**Overheard this month: Amanda**

Stacey:

"Vitamins are like medicine; therefore, you may not open the vitamin container."
Amanda:  "They are for what?"
Stacey:  "No, not 'they’re for.' Therefore."
Playdate with Sean

We started with some brunch. Amanda and Sean shared a table, and Sean tried hard to catch the light from the camera's flash.

Sean's hopping dinosaur/horse/giraffe thing was popular with the girls.

**Overheard this month: Robin**

Blanket answer to any question: "I eat peanut butter now."

Then we went to the playground that's right next to Sean's house!

There are straight slides...

Curly slides...

**Overheard this month: Robin**

Stacey, after Robin burped:    "Say 'excuse me.'"
Robin:    "Excuse you."
Stacey:    "No-- Excuse Robin"
Robin:    "Excuse Mommy!"

Lots of things to climb...

And a see-saw!

**Overheard this month: Amanda- You Only THINK She's Not Listening**

"Is there a war in Abbottabad?"

Happy Birthday, Uncle Steve!
Steven turned 40 this year in grand fashion-- his party included a moonbounce.

Amanda was feeling a little under the weather and while that didn't stop her from partaking in some bouncing, it did limit our ability to take lots of pictures. So take it from us when we say that there were lots of people, lots of food, good cake, and lots of fun.

Amanda lounges in the hammock; Robin tries out the suede chair (it's a good thing Ron is not here to see that)

**Overheard this month: Robin**

Robin:

"Ooooh Ooooh Ahhh Ahhh!"
Stacey:    "Are you being a monkey?"
Robin:    "Yes. Quack quack!"
Stacey:    "What are you being now?"
Robin:    "I'm being good."

Rooftop Gardening at Bread for the City

Bread for the City has the largest rooftop garden in DC, with all of the food harvested being distributed at the on-site food pantry. Aside from that, it also makes an awesome activity for a 4 year old who has to spend the day at work with her mom when there's no school. Amanda brought some flower seeds and, with the help of Garden Guy Jeffrey, she planted and watered them. She was then given license to water anything else she wanted. She had a great time. About an hour later, she asked, "Can we go see if my seeds are growing yet?"

**Overheard this month: Amanda**

Stacey:   "I have that song running through my head."
Amanda:    "I don't have anything running through MY head."

Artistic Princess

Amanda made herself a princess crown.

**Overheard this month: Robin**

Putting her doll down for a nap: "Close eyes, doll!"

Memorial Day Family Fun

We took a trip into DC and went to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History (both girls are interested in dinosaurs).

Of course the museum itself was loads of enjoyment, though the girls may have fonder memories of:

Riding Metro!

Riding the Carousel on the Mall!

And, the best part of the day, SpongeBob ice cream treats for lunch! (Yes, for lunch.)

**Overheard this month: Amanda**

Amanda:   "Is it June?"
Stacey:   "Not yet. Tomorrow is June First."
Amanda:   "So today's May Last?"
