Happy 2nd Birthday, Robin!

This month started off with a super fun birthday bang for Robin and ended with a big boom for us all over here with an earthquake (really!) followed closely by a hurricane. We wound down our summer with several fun activities, many of which involved popsicles and outrageous outfits. We began making more formal plans to build an addition onto the house, Amanda started asking about getting a job once she finishes middle school, and Robin started calling Amanda by her name instead of "Girl."

Robin's birthday was fantastic. She loved every moment of her birthday and absolutely loves being 2.

We purchased a new bed for Robin this month, but have yet to assemble it. For a few weeks, Robin seemed ready to climb out of her crib. She settled back down, though, and we are thankful we did not move her out of her crib yet. It was around the same time that she started waking up at 5:15 every morning.

Amanda continued her countdown to Kindergarten and got more and more excited with every passing day. Amanda continued to improve her reading skills this year and is making her way through an entire book all by herself.

"I twoooooooo!"

"I 2 old."

The night before her birthday, singing to herself in her crib: "I turning two! I turning two!"

Happy Birthday, Robin!

Robin had a very very busy birthday-- and loved every minute of it.

Robin, decked out in her favorite "Bubbles" dress, started the day with some presents, a birthday balloon, and another door measure.

"I'm from the other side of the Earth. I'm from Mexico."

Picking up a crown and balloon at Toys R Us.

Measuring how much she's grown since 18 months.

"It's your turn time!"
Next, we headed to Tot Shabbat,
where Robin, as a birthday girl, got to hold the Kiddush Cup in addition to the job she chose of candlestick holder.
**Overheard this month: Amanda**
Reading a sign that says "Keep off the grass," Amanda countered,
"It should say 'Stay off the grass.'"
And now, the Birthday Party!
**Overheard this month: Robin**
Trying to put on her shoes, "Help me! Ayudame!"
Robin loved it when everyone sang Happy Birthday to her. She needed a little assistance blowing out her candle.
She did not, however, require any help eating her cake.
Danny, Benji and Sean all enjoy some cake (and some chocolate smudges).
**Overheard this month: Amanda**
Talking about her Polly Pocket doll:
"Christina doesn't like swimming because last time I took her shirt off, her head came off."
Fugitives From the Party
Be on the lookout for Amanda, Gabby, and Joel.
Contact the authorities if you find Benji or Danny.
Robin brings her two best friends home from the party.
**Overheard this month: Robin**
Trying to get her Daddy's attention: "Daddy? Daddy? Aleck? Aleck!"
Lots o' Popsicles
Robin gets her birthday popsicles ready to take to camp;
the girls enjoy popsicles at Amanda's "welcome to Kindergarten" popsicle party on the playground.

**Overheard this month: Amanda**

"That milk doesn't taste well."

Speaking of Camp...

Much to the girls' dismay, camp came to a close in the middle of this month.
There was certainly enough time to squeeze in lots of fun, though.

Stacey asked Robin to hold her hand in a crowded mall. Robin clasped her hands behind her back and said defiantly,
"No. I hold hands with MYSELF."

Dressing for Camp '80s Style
Stacey had much more fun creating their look for '80s Day than they had wearing it.

Amanda rocks a side pony and both girls groove with their boom boxes

Talking with Amanda about the '80s and mentioned that we used to use the word "Rad."
After I explained what it meant, she answered, "So you used to speak a different language then?

Rainbow Day

Stacey started singing 'Rockin' Robin': "No, Mommy. Don't sing my song."

Amanda actually left the house like this. Yup.

Robin shows off her new hot pink and black sneakers, as well as her Dutch side in wooden shoes!

She also likes to point out her new Dora outfit, a birthday present from Oma and Opa.

**Overheard this month: Robin**

Singing to the tune of the Barney song: "I love you. You love you."

**Overheard this month: Robin**

Running around in her wings and flapping her arms: "I fly like a fairy!"

All's Fair in Love and the County Fair

We hit the Arlington County Fair again this year with Molly and Madelyn.

**Overheard this month: Amanda**

In a letter to Grammy: "I love you 100 much."

Dina took the 2 big girls on the ferris wheel; Amanda and Molly ride the swings and then jump in the moonbounce

**Overheard this month: Robin**

Scribbling on paper: "I color chocolate for Mommy."

More August Birthday Fun!
This time, it was Amanda's friend Sophie who had a birthday.

**Overheard this month: Robin**

Poking Stacey's cheeks: "That yours? That your face?"

Bonus Trip to Bouncy House!

When bad weather (read: Hurricane Irene) foiled our plans to go to a water park,
we went back to the super fun scene of Amanda's birthday party, instead!

Click Here for a video of the girls playing at the bouncy house (16 seconds).
**Overheard this month: Amanda**
"I did a lot of love in there."
