Amanda Rachel & Robin Beatrice
Amanda was born on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at 3:16 pm
Robin was born on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at 9:24 pm

September 2011

We had a HUGE month with the start of Kindergarten and Preschool. Both girls were very excited to start school. Amanda's excitement peaked just before the start of school, but plummeted after the Kindergarten Open House (a few days before the first day), when the whole thing became very real for her. The first day of school was anxiety-producing (and Amanda did not get much sleep the night before). She did come home having made a friend (but without her umbrella, raincoat, or lunch box.) It took almost the whole first month to fully adjust, but she rallied by the end of the month and grew to absolutely love Kindergarten and her new friends.

Amanda also started Hebrew School this month, and was delighted to find that the class was mostly packed with her friends from preschool. It was like a mini-reunion every week, complete with squeals and giggles.

Robin started preschool, and while she is in the same place as she was over the summer for camp, she is now in a different room with different teachers and some new kids. Also, Amanda is no longer there to watch over her. Robin was fantastic, though, and came home every day singing all of the songs she has learned and talking about how she played with her "friends" (the girls) and "buds" (the boys). She also consistently refers to Amanda as "My sister Amanda" as though she has to differentiate between all of her sisters or all of the other Amandas she knows (of which there are none).

In growing and changing news: Robin got her first haircut (a harrowing experience for her), Amanda started to say the letter "R" properly (and began chastising other kids who can't), and Robin learned to spell her name! (9 seconds)

And from the "Live and Learn Department:" Don't ever leave your diamond ring next to the sink and also leave your 2 year old unattended near said sink. You might just hear, Clink clink clink. "Where did it go?"

"I see R! R for Robin!"

Amanda visits her classroom the week before school starts to meet her teacher and practice walking by herself from the door to her class.

We read The Kissing Hand, a story about a Mommy raccoon who kisses her son's hand before he goes to school so that he will know she is always with him. Amanda kissed Stacey's palm "so you don't get lonely."

Stacey:    "Do you want me to kiss yours, too?"
Amanda:    "No. I don't worry about you so much."

Preschool!

Here are side-by-side pictures of Robin on her first day of school: before school, and after.

Amanda's Artwork at School
Her favorite color is "purple and pink"; she likes to "play with my friends Gianna" (we think she meant to add more but ran out of room); and when she grows up, she wants to be "a teacher."
