June 2012

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMANDA!

June, as always, was a very exciting month in the Johnson household as we finish up the school year and summer goes into full swing. And, of course, we celebrate Amanda's 6th birthday. We spent time with friends, took a boat tour, and ate a lot of ice cream.

Robin went to JCC camp, which for her felt like an extension of preschool, only with more water and less circle time. Amanda had her first year of "real" day camp. We had a few options and weren't sure which she would like best, so we tried a few. We'll report back next month, as camp began in the last week of June.

National Donut Day

Nothing can keep us away from National Donut Day, not even a hurricane watch, as was the case this year.

We met up with our similarly sweet-toothed friends, Charlie and Elena.

**Overheard this month: Robin**

"My tummy hurts. The doctor didn't change my heart."

Tot Shabbat

Amanda was Torah helper, Robin was challah helper, and special guest Aunt Lois was Robin's 10 Commandments helper.

Because it was her birthday month, Amanda had the privilege of leading us in the blessings over challah and juice before we had lunch.

Boatloads of Fun

We took a mini-cruise around the Potomac. It was very fun!

We had some time to kill before the ship boarded, and there was something that resembled a stage. What choice did they have?
Quote from Robin as we were walking out the door: "I've got my crown and my sunglasses. I'm READY to go!"
Fridge Fun
We are so proud of Robin-- she used the letters on the fridge to spell her name for the first time!
Amanda came along right after to expand on her sister's work.

**Overheard this month: Robin**

"Your talkings hurt my feelings."

This is her standard reply whenever she is told something that she does not want to hear, like that it's bedtime.

The Really Big Shows
June marks the close of the school year, and school cannot end without a well-thought out and expertly executed presentation.

Or, failing that, it seems school will just end anyway.

Kindergarten ended on a high note with the kids (Amanda and Charlie) inviting us into the Hawaiian-themed classroom for a recap of all they've learned, their dreams for the future, and a little disco music.

Robin's class treated parents and other students to a bilingual song in English and Hebrew all about families. Robin really got into it.

Amanda Steps Behind The Camera

Summer = Ice Cream!

In keeping with our family tradition, we ate ice cream outside on the first day of summer.
This year, it happened to coincide with the last day of school. Double scoop!

**Overheard this month: Robin**

"I don't know why everyone calls me a book."

Summer = Camp!

Amanda is 6!

Amanda got a few fun presents from her family, including one from Oma and Opa. Click Here to see how incredibly grateful she was for it.

Robin got a sister-present (and Amanda was instrumental in freeing it from it's paper enslavement),

and Amanda also took some time to arrange her Lego girls just so.

Ice Cream Party

Amanda invited her friends to a make-your-own sundae birthday party where her friends not only ate ice cream, but each made a scoop for Amanda's giant birthday sundae poster.
