May 2010

Life continued to chug along this month. The weather finally started to turn warmer, Robin continued to grow and develop new skills, and Amanda turned into a girl. Shunning her previously adored Spiderman shirts and firefighter pajamas, Amanda now prefers skirts, ballerinas, and Fancy Nancy-like attire. She also doesn't like anything blue, because blue is for boys.

Robin has started adding consonants to her constant babble. She seems to talk about Bob Loblaw's Law Blog a lot (click here to hear it for yourself! Video is 21 seconds). And there's a fair amount of spitting, raspberries, and drool. By the end of the month, Robin was sporting 4 teeth (two on top and two on the bottom). She used them well, preferring crunchy foods like dry cereal, crackers, and Gerber Puffs. She also loves to stand, but is not very interested in walking yet. Climbing, however, is all the rage. She began climbing stairs in earnest this month and can get all the way up a flight (6-8 stairs) fairly quickly. She knows she's not supposed to, though, so she will begin climbing and then start to shake her head "no". She stands at the couch and tries to lift her knee up to climb on. If she can get a foothold in something, she will climb it.

Robin also started waving "bye-bye" this month. One day Stacey and Robin were playing with toys on one side of the room and Amanda was on the other side playing with some dolls. Amanda was having her dolls converse with each other, and when one of them said goodbye to the other, Robin started waving for them.

This month we had a lot of fun activities like celebrating Mother's day and Merrie's birthday. Amanda's preschool class also took a field trip to a museum. We ended the month with a trip to the strawberry fields with our havurah.

Robin is 9 Months Old!

Time for a photo shoot!

**Overheard this month**

On Robin: “She doesn’t know how to talk well-ly.”

The Sun Comes Out and The Neighborhood Comes Alive

Sophie is attracted to Amanda's helmet; Ricky wants a ride in the pink limo.

**Overheard this month**

"Super duper." and "Super duper duper duper."

Happy Birthday, Merrie! And Thanks For Having Your Party at a Playground!

My, how things change. Back before we all had kids, Merrie's birthday would have been celebrated with a late night dinner, complete with wine, on the rooftop deck. Now, we head to the playground in the early afternoon.

**Overheard this month**

One night at dinner: "Let’s hold hands and never let go. Until I want to eat my pizza."

Robin's A Swinger

Robin tried out a swing at Merrie's party. To say she liked it is an understatement.

"Hey! How'd my feet get all the way down there?"

Robin Thinks Life Is A Ball!

Plastic ball-- the perfect snack for a girl on the go.

**Overheard this month**

"Let’s see who can get to the door the fastest. Make sure you stay behind me, Mommy."

Let's Get Physical... Physical! I Want To Get Physical!

Yet another stunning creation from independent-dresser Amanda. It's the headband that really makes it, isn't it?

Smooching Sisters

**Overheard this month**

Sitting at dinner together one night, we had the following conversation:

Amanda:    "Mommy, I made you a Mother's Day present. Want to know what it is?"
Stacey:    "No, don't tell me. It's supposed to be a surprise."
Amanda:    "Ok Mommy. I'll never tell you. Do you want to know?"
Aleck:    "Amanda, you can tell me what you made for Mommy."
Amanda, turning her head to Aleck:    "Daddy, I made her a purple plate with a paper flower." Turning to Stacey: "But I won't tell YOU what it is, Mommy!"

Robin Has Been Giving Us Some Lip

Perhaps it's due to teething, but that lower lip seems to always be sucked into her mouth.

**Overheard this month**

Discussing mixing primary colors to make new ones: “Do you know what? If you put purple and pink together, it’s… cute.”

Happy Girls

Museum Trip with Aleck

On a day off from school, Amanda and Aleck went to the Smithsonian

Penguins Class Field Trip to the Smithsonian's National Gallery of Art

After learning all about different artists, the class wanted to go to the museum. Since off-site field trips are not allowed by the school, Amanda's teacher Ms. Ali offered to take the class (and their families) on a tour of the museum one Saturday.
Is this a great preschool or what?

We stopped every so often for the kids to draw their own interpretation of the art they saw.

Afterward, we had a picnic lunch outside.

School Days, School Days...

Painting, Science experiments, Costumes, Cooking, Outside Play and more. It's all in a day's work for Amanda.

Making worms in dirt with gummy worms and pudding. Yummy!

Ms. Ali and her busy bees.

Oh, so THIS is how Amanda comes home with mulch in her clothes and shoes every day.

Poser Amanda

Amanda likes to sing and... show off her fairies.

The pictures above made clear that it was time for a haircut. Do you like it?

**Overheard this month**

"When you're done with that, you’ll be happy to help me get this down."

Strawberry Fields Forever

Strawberry picking trip with the Havurah

Ethan, Carly, Amanda, and Lexi show off their hauls

Carly (sheep), Amanda (horse), Some Girl We Don't Know (cow), and Faren (pig)

Robin, while not adept at picking strawberries, was up to the task of eating them afterward.

**Overheard this month**

At a preschool family night, the Rabbi was telling a story from the Torah, and he mentioned that it's a really old story.
Amanda raised her hand to interrupt with this:

"Excuse me, Rabbi Isserow. That story might even be older than my Daddy, because he's really old!"

Apparently, The Main Course Was Not Enough

Robin noisily sucked on her toes one night after she had finished eating. Is that a commentary on the food?

**Overheard this month**

Making an arts and crafts dog: “It’s a boy because he looks kind of fake.”

Robin Loves Elijah
And by the looks of it, the feeling is mutual.

Budding Artiste?

"Look what I made for Mommy for Mother's Day!"
Yeah, right. I am hard pressed to believe that Robin had anything to do with the creation of this picture.
And why is it to her "mom"? Isn't Stacey really her Mom?
