Amanda Rachel
Amanda was born on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at 3:16 pm

August 2008

Amanda moved into her new bedroom and into a big girl bed this month. Her new room is covered in Dora: on the bed, on the walls, and everywhere in between. The best part (for us) of her new bed is that she still treats it as a crib and will stay in the bed until we get her. We rotate between her Dora sheets and her Princess sheets, each of which makes her giddy every time she clambers onto the bed.

She is also starting to recognize letters and is able to assign some letters to their sounds and to words that begin with those letters. She knows that she starts with A, and of course that Dora starts with D. One day she was holding Bunny and we pointed out that Bunny starts with B. She held Bunny up eye to eye and said with barely contained enthusiasm, "Bunny, you start with B!"

Amanda has also recently gotten some new hairstyles, courtesy of her day care. We send her each morning with one or two barrettes clipped into her hair, mostly to keep it out of her face. All month long, she has come home with pigtails, twists, and even a French braid! We still haven't been brave enough to take her for a haircut, but her hair is not too unruly yet, so I think we're in the clear. She was practically bald until a year ago anyway, so it's not like she has mountains of hair at this time.

At the end of August, Amanda said goodbye to her day care and will start preschool in September. Her day care providers were very sad to see her go. Amanda would have been sad had she understood the situation. Of course, there were cupcakes to ease the transition for all parties involved. We'll report on her new school next month.

Firewoman for a Day!

A local fire house hosted their annual birthday celebration. Amanda got a fire hat and a butterfly painted on her cheek. She also got to "drive" a fire truck and sit in the passenger side, as well. She met a fire man, but was a little less excited by that.

Looking at 4 grains of rice on the plate: "Daddy, you want to eat your rices?"

Brunch with Grandpa Dave and Aunt Lois

(and Daddy and Mommy)

Amanda was very busy with her job of coloring the entire menu.

Purple Toenails!

Amanda noticed Stacey's painted toenails one day and wanted them for herself!

She's one sharp girl

It's Dinnertime Time!

Hair Today...

She goes for the ponies and the braids, and sometimes she even rocks the side pony.

And if all else fails, put a hat on it.

Who's in Amanda's bed?

Who's in Amanda's bed? Bunny and Dora and Glo-Worm and Dora and Svetlana and Baby Red and Dora and Baby Boo and Dora and Dora and Bugga Bugga... and Amanda, too, I think. When we go in to check on her at night, it is often hard to find her with so many other "people" in there!

Having Some Balls Outside

Even Luna got in on the action!

Oh, and in case you hadn't noticed, she still picks out her own clothes

Cue the JAWS theme:

Merrie's belly (inside which she's cooking an eventual 9 pounder) encroaches on Amanda's new activity table in the kitchen.

The belly is not so imposing here, only now Amanda doesn't have much room to sit.

Now we're cooking!

The Green Monstah

Amanda loves to wear this all-green ensemble. She wore it, appropriately enough, on a day that we went to see the Red Sox play the Orioles. Amanda did not go to the game, but she was rooting on the Sox in spirit.

Busy Girl

I've got lots to do. See you next month!

I made on potty at school! (pause) In the bathroom.
