Happy New Year!

This month was full of fantastic clothing choices, some baking with Stacey, and lots of fun at school.

It's been quite an exciting year already, as well, with the announcement that we are expecting another child in early August. Amanda is very excited to be a big sister, even though she's not quite sure what it means. Stacey is faring much worse with this pregnancy than with the last one. Pregnancy with Amanda was a breeze, but this time around, Stacey was suffering from nightly nausea and general fatigue (which somewhat explains the dearth of pictures and the tardiness of December's webpage). That has finally abated, along with a short-lived aversion to meat (thank goodness. Being a vegetarian was really hard, even for a few weeks).

Amanda is doing great at learning her letters and the sounds they make. She can often tell you what letter a word starts with just by sounding it out, and can also tell you other words that start with that same letter. She knows that "P" says "puh," for example, so when coming up with more words, she'll say, "Puh, puh, PIZZA! Puh, puh, PURPLE!" And then sometimes, "Puh, puh, RAINBOW!" So close.

Her language skills are improving and she is getting more expressive. She's started to use the word "very" a lot, though she uses it in place of the word "really." She'll say things like, "I very want it" or "I very love you." It's so cute that we haven't had the heart to correct her yet. She is also getting very imaginative and comes up with different scenarios in which her dolls play the key roles. She comes up with dialogue for them, and talks for them in a high, falsetto voice. Many times, the situation is the same: one doll has pushed another and must apologize and then go sit in time out. Here's what it sounds like:

Amanda to doll: "You pushed him. There's no pushing. Say you're sorry."
Doll to other doll (in squeaky voice): "Sorry."
Amanda to doll: "Sorry for what?"
Doll to other doll (in squeaky voice): "Sorry for pushing you."
Amanda to doll: "Now you sit here for 2 minutes and think about it."

The other new thing she's learned is the song The Name Game (you know- "Mary, Mary, Bo Berry, Banana Fanna Fo Ferry...") and she LOVES it. She often asks us to sing the song with every item she can see in the room. "Can you do... spoon!?" "Can you do... milk!?" "Can you do... Rabbi Isserow!?"

Yup, still picking out her own clothes.

Fashionista

She has quite the outfit, and then added to it her train conductor hat, which she insisted on covering with her hood.
It helped her Tapper game considerably.

Good Times At School

I know what you're thinking: Why is Amanda the only one who's blue?

Oh, now it makes sense. She's the only one who opted to eat blue goo off of the table.

Beach Party!

She came home in her spare clothes and explained that "my first clothes got all wet from the water!"

Amanda Witnesses History (from the warmth of her school)
No, we did not venture down to the Mall for the Presidential Inauguration,
but she was fortunate enough to watch the swearing in at school, and even got a sticker to prove it.

Amanda gets a "laptop"

This is Aleck using his laptop to order us a pizza one night. And next to him is Amanda, who picked up this book (it's a book with a music keyboard on it, and the pages are half size and flip up) and started to use it to order a pizza, as well.
Mommy's Baking Helper
First Amanda was a key player in cleaning up the bowl of chocolate and the whipped cream beater

"On your market, get set, go!"

A few days later, she got down to business making a carrot cake for Aleck
