March 2009

Amanda had a month of extremes in March. We got lots of snow here at home, and then left for a few days in sunny Florida. She also had lots of fun dancing, jumping, skipping and playing (as usual), but then got struck with a stomach bug that put her out of commission for almost a week. That was not at all fun, but she weathered it well and with much less drama than one might have thought would accompany such discomfort. She was home from school for several days and really missed all of her friends.

Amanda has also named her unborn sibling Baby Bam, and has decided that all unborn babies are named Bam. She was also adamant that the baby was a girl, until we found out that it actually is a girl, and then she decided to insist that the baby is a boy. She is still very excited at the prospect of a new baby, and delights in talking about "our baby" and "my baby." The poor thing has no clue of how this will impact her daily life, but we'll take all the enthusiasm we can.

Snow Day!

Amanda was very excited to put on her snow boots, snow pants, and other winter gear, but as you'll see,
she was not too happy to actually be out in the blowing snow.

**Overheard this month**

Merrie (whispering): "Can you whisper?"
Amanda (whispering): "No."

Florida, Here We Come

We spent a few days in Florida visiting Grandpa Dave and Aunt Lois. It was a welcome change from home.

We got to do so many fun things on vacation

Shabbat Dinner

We lit candles, said the blessing over the wine, and then said the blessing over the challah.

Amanda got to hold the real cup for a moment, but was then given one more appropriate.
And it was a good thing, too, since that plastic cup was on the floor about 20 seconds later.

And what meal is complete without cupcakes and green frosting?

**Overheard this month**

"Bye bye, playground. See you next year!"

Swimming! (Amanda's version: sitting on the pool stairs refusing to get in the water)

The Beach

We watched the waves from up above.

Then we went down and got our feet in the sand. Amanda was not very fond of getting her feet dirty,
but eventually warmed to it after discovering sea shells.

Here Amanda uses her cell phone to take a picture of Grandpa Dave while he takes a picture of her.

Eating spicy food: "It's biting my tongue!"

Real Ducks! Up Close!

Grandpa Dave and Aunt Lois's friends Cindy and Brian have ducks that come up to their back door.
Amanda was so excited to get to feed them some bread.

Inside was Cindy's BIG panda, which Amanda tried to lay on the couch for nap time

Lastly, the duck expedition would not have been complete without a little dancing with a singing dog.

Brunch at the famous John G's on the beach

LOTS of outside play time with bubbles

**Overheard this month**

"I hurt my finger! I hurt my finger! Remember when I hurt my finger?"

We even found a playground

This was the coolest playground ever. It had a zipline... just like Diego!

EVERYBODY had to take part on this ride.

**Overheard this month**

Amanda sings "Macaroni and cheese" in her own, made up tune, then: "Mommy, do you want to hear the macaroni and cheese song?"
Stacey: "I'd love to. Go ahead."
Amanda: "I just sang it."

Ahhhhh

Amanda was kept so busy that Stacey and Aleck even got time to sit and relax. Amazing!

Baker's Helper
Amanda was instrumental in making sure that all parts of Aleck's birthday cake were covered in frosting.
Unfortunately, Amanda was sick over Aleck's birthday and we didn't get any pictures of a celebration.

Have spreader, will frost cake (and lick some frosting, too)

**Overheard this month**

Singing Happy Birthday to Aleck: "...Happy birthday to my daddy..."

How Many Barrettes Does It Take...

Amanda displays her handiwork. She directed the placement of 5 barrettes on her head.

While baking with Stacey, Amanda saw a bowl of chocolate and peanut butter swirled chips.
"Chocolate chips!" she exclaimed. After eating one:

Stacey: "What does it taste like?"
Amanda: "Chocolate"
Stacey: "And what else?" (trying to elicit 'peanut butter')
Amanda: "Chip."

Afternoon Visit from Amanda's Cousins

Samantha and Emma came to play, and found lots of creative uses for the slide.

Mall Rat

We made use of the mall's play area on a rainy day

Train Ride Through The Mall!

Aleck particularly likes this shot, with Stacey in the background being "overly maternal"
