Amanda Rachel
Amanda was born on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at 3:16 pm

September 2008

Amanda started preschool this month. The transition to a new school with new kids and teachers went a lot more smoothly than we had expected, thankfully. Amanda had a rough time transitioning between the different rooms at her old day care, so we were worried about this change, but it seems to have worked out quite well. Her new school is much closer to our house and, weather permitting, Aleck has even been taking her to school by bicycle. She gets very excited about this and is overjoyed to tell her classmates that she came on a bicycle and wore a helmet.

Amanda loves her new school and talks about all of the fun activities she does each day. They paint (sometimes with their feet), cook, have creative movement class, music class, read books, make art, and go on the playground. If you ask her what she did all day, though, she will answer, "We just played." She seems to be learning a lot, and we are also learning that Amanda is a bit of a teacher's pet. Her daily notes include things like, "Amanda helped all the kids find the right colors for our dance today" and "Amanda had fun telling everyone that they had to wait until their projects were dry."

This month we went to a party in honor of Amanda's soon to be born friend, The Rookie (currently in Merrie's belly). We also spent time with Grammy, Elijah, played a lot, and said some really funny things.

First Day of School

Amanda loves her new Dora lunch bag

"There will be no more of that."

“Keep your hands to yourself” (when unwilling to cuddle)

"This Old Man, he played one, he played knick knack on my shoe."

Visit with Grammy and Great Aunt Sheila

Stacey (after burping): "Excuse me."
Amanda: "You're welcome."

Wow. Not quite sure what to say about this one.

To the cashier at the grocery store: “Thank you for buying our groceries.”

Relaxing with Daddy
Amanda and Aleck spend a little time cuddling before heading out to the first day of school

When asked a question to which she doesn’t know the answer, she replies, “Do you remember?” (sounds like, “DooMembah?”)

"They Match!"

Toddler logic: They both have Dora; therefore, they match.

**Overheard this month**

"It’s very very stripes."

Sock Monkey

Her love of socks persists, and has begun to migrate upwards.

**Overheard this month: Spanish**

When asked to repeat the phrase 'Yo soy Amanda': "I'm so Amanda."

"Nine, ten, eleven, doce, catorce…TEN!"

**Overheard this month**

"Why?"

The Rookie's Baby Shower

The Rookie is the nickname for the baby in Merrie's belly. We all gathered to celebrate his pending arrival next month. Amanda got to meet Ayla. Ayla's mom and Stacey had almost the same due date, only Ayla was considerate enough to wait until she was a little closer to her due date before making her grand entrance.

Ayla and Amanda had fun together, until they remembered that they are toddlers and are supposed to ignore each other until it's time to go, at which point they scream because they want to play together.

**Overheard this month**

The opposite of something? "No something"

Amanda gets a boost from Elijah the Strong and Maggie the Cute

**Overheard this month**

"It’s very hot a little bit."

Daddy's Girl

"Don't touch.  I'm working on something."

**Overheard this month**

"There’s sandbox in my shoe."
