July 2012

This month started off with fireworks-- though not the ones you're thinking of. We were hit with a huge storm over the 1st of July, El Derecho, leaving us without power (or the all-important air conditioning) for 2 days. In response, we hightailed it out of town a few days early for our annual trek to Ohio to see the scheduled fireworks a few days later. While we lost all of the food in the fridge and freezer, luckily we escaped any real damage from the storm.

Camp was in full swing this month. Amanda went to a few different day camps and the big winner hands-down was the week she spent at Nature Camp. We have unleashed a bio-science-ecology demon who can't seem to get enough information about animals and nature in general. She had fun at all of the camps, but enjoyed Nature Camp the best.

Amanda began reading chapter books this month, much to her parents' delight. She was bribed to read the first one, Stacey hoping that Amanda would become hooked after that small taste. Luckily, she was right and we began scrambling for more and more books for Amanda to read.

Robin had her first visit to the dentist this month and did a great job. She and Amanda both went and Robin got to watch Amanda go through the procedure first. They both look good, if not a little crowded in there. Some orthodontist is going to LOVE us one day.

Amanda's opinion of cleavage: "Why do people think it's pretty to show their booby-cracks?"

The Month of Haircuts (and lollipops)

**Overheard this month: Robin**

"Daddy, I want my waffle cut into pieces... of barbecue chicken."

Birthday Cupcakes

Some of you may be aware that Stacey's birthday is in July. Being only 3 days after Amanda's birthday means that it is often overshadowed at home. At work, however, Stacey still gets her due. Her co-worker Wendy made cupcakes to celebrate, and was thoughtful enough to pack a few extra to take home to the girls and Aleck. They were well recivedl.

Happy 4th!

As per usual, we spent our nation's birthday in Ohio with the Collins family. We were once again treated to a fantastic parade in the morning and fireworks at night. Oh, and a great time with good friends, as well.

Amanda read Tales of a Fourth "Grader" Nothing and had this to say about it:

"I like Judy Blume. This book is FUNNY!"

Amanda got to stay up late for fireworks this year for the first time. She and Katie had fun with sparklers and glow sticks.

Happy Camper

For the second year in a row, Robin was Dora for camp's dress-up day.

Looking at the directions for how to make Old Fashioned Lemonade:
"Old Fashioned lemonade? Can we make now's lemonade? I'm not old fashioned. I'm now."

What a GREAT Aunt!

We spent some time this month with Great-Aunt Sheila and Great-Uncle Mickey. Always a fun time!

**Overheard this month: Robin**

Aleck: "We help people when they need it."
Robin: "And we don't eat poopies."

Fun Times Outside

**Overheard this month: Robin**

"It's not 50 0'clock yet. When it's 50 o'clock, I'll go."

Fun Times Inside

Who needs toys? They were occupied by the spice jars for well over an hour.
**Overheard this month: Amanda**
"Mommy, you're my favorite grown-up girl in the whole world."
Robin's 1st Visit to the Dentist
She did a fantastic job, got her teeth cleaned, and was excited about her goody bag!
It was a successful visit all around, especially for her future orthodontist, who will benefit greatly from her tiny mouth and crowded teeth.
**Overheard this month: Robin**
At a birthday party, Robin asked the mom if there was birthday cake.
She said, "It's coming in five minutes."
Robin countered with, "No, three minutes."
