February 2012

Leapin' Lizards! We had an exciting month, made even more exciting by the extra day. While we did not hop about on Leap Day, as Amanda thought we might, we did have a lot of fun this month with mild weather allowing us to play outside and watch the finishing touches on our garage addition.

Aleck and Stacey also took their first kid-free trip this month. It was a short one, but worth it. Aleck took his annual trip to St. Thomas, and Stacey tagged along for a weekend. We got to sleep in and relax. It was lovely.

Amanda has started to say the word "whatever" under her breath when she is asked to do unreasonable things, like set the table for dinner. Even better, she taught it to Robin, who uses in her preschool classroom. Her teacher even told us that she often uses it appropriately (and by that, she means inappropriately). Robin also matured this month and started calling her parents "Mom" and "Dad".

Amanda now speaks in spelling. She spells at least one word of each sentence when talking to us.

"It's not fair."

Permanency Planning

We got a new driveway as part of construction, and tried to have the girls put their handprints in it. We were a little too late for that, and their prints didn't take. We decided to give Amanda a stick and she wrote hers and Robin's initials in the wet cement. In the picture on the bottom left, you can see the ghost images of their handprints, but they did not last once the concrete fully dried.

Hearing Robin cry, we ask, "What is it?" Her reply: "It's too hard for me is what it is."

Mini-Vacation for Stacey and Aleck!

We got away for a quick weekend without the kids. We went to St. Thomas and had a fantastic time.
Grammy Karyn stayed with the girls, and we are not sure they ever realized we weren't there.

100

In celebration of the 100th day of school, Amanda's class had several 100-themed activities and even a party. One assignment was to fill a baggie with 100 items of your choosing. Amanda chose popcorn kernels.

Amanda's strategy was to make a sheet with 10 circles, into which she would place 10 kernels each.

Success!

Concert Of The Year

Amanda's friend Charlie built a stage on his patio, and invited his friends over to perform a concert. Amanda, Charlie, Elena, and Logan gave us a rocking performance. They spent an inordinate amount of time asking us to be quiet (though we were not talking) and ensuring that we were not using any recording devices (Aleck evaded the crack security by placing the camera on a table where it was unnoticed). The original video footage of about 7 minutes was whittled down to the actual singing, seen here (2:37).

**Overheard this month: Literally Amanda**

Explaining Leap Day to Amanda, she asked, "So is everyone just going to jump everywhere?"
